Goat milk is similar to cows milk but it can replace sheep milk or cow's milk in diets of those who are allergic. Goat milk will also deliver a good source of lactose (sugar) but could result in a serious problem if you suffer from lactose intolerance. Goat milk has small fat globules and with this is mind the cream will then remain in the milk but instead it does not need to be homogenized.
By the name it sounds like it wouldn't be that tasty but believe it or not properly handled goat milk is sweet and delicious, tasting just like whole cow milk from the grocery store (if not better). Just like with anything if you let the expiration date expire it could be bitter, bad tasting, "goaty" or "bucky." If you decide to buy goat milk from the store it's available but take note that this will taste nothing like "real" raw goat milk right out of the goat. The way your goat milk will taste will vary depending on what kind of goat you decide to get because what the goat eats could determine how it tastes. Research has shown that the strong flavor of plants such as onions and garlic could get into the milk if the goat has consumed any of it. Those two things have much more effect on the taste of the milk than eating fresh pasture and browse. With this in mind you might find great success and turn to goat milk instead of the dairy cow milk which will not be a bad choice at all. Nigerian Dwarf goats are the current trend. They make great pets because of their even disposition, and they’re cute and cuddly. You can adopt an adult Nigerian Dwarf goat for $250 and a buck kid for $150. One mistake in raising a Nigerian Dwarf Goat is only adopting one. For a health and a mentally well-balanced Nigerian Dwarf goat, adopt at least two.
In addition to being great pets, goats milk has health benefits. You haven’t tasted anything until you’ve tasted goat milk fudge. Even goat milk put into soap has noticeable benefits for your skin. Goats don’t need much space to live on. Up to 12 or 13 Nigerian Dwarf goats can thrive on one acre! Plus, the goats provide a service to you. They will keep the vegetation on your property trimmed - you’ll never have to mow again. They also provide natural fertilizer to your yard. The goats also reduce the number of fleas and ticks in your yard! To protect them from predators, make a sturdy 6 X 8 foot pen using cattle fencing. To protect them from the wind and rain, a dog house is perfect. Wood shavings topped with straw makes a comfortable and dry bed. Muck out the bedding; then use it as compost for your garden. One tip is to house the boys separately from the girls. Frequent births is not healthy. (If you are going to breed them, then the births must be 18 months apart.) Goats need entertainment to be mentally well-balanced. Make sure you provide toys. Goats love picnic tables, boulders, balls, and tires. When you buy toys, make sure they are non-toxic and durable. Goat's milk soap is a very gentle soap and works well on sensitive skin. It lowers the PH of the soap so that it is not as hard on the skin. It also contains proteins, vitamins, and minerals. You can use either fresh or powdered goat's milk to make the soap; however, sometimes when you color your soap, the powdered milk affects the color. If you use the hot process, the soap will turn out brown or tan and has a bad odor when it is cooking. For this reason many people prefer the cold process.
The cold process makes the most gentle soap. It can be scented with essential oils and fragrances. The reason goat milk soap is so good for sensitive skin is that it does not contain harsh detergents like most of the regular hand soap does. It does not dry your skin out, but the natural glycerin moistens sensitive skin and makes it smooth. If you are sensitive to fragrances, you can make it or purchase it without the essential oils or fragrance. When you invest in a good quality goat milk soap, you want it to last as long as possible. If it lays in a wet soap dish, it melts and is hard to use. One of the best kinds of soap dishes is a waterfall soap dish, where any water immediately drains into the sink. These can be ordered over the Internet or many upscale gift stores may have them. They also carry goat's milk soap if you don't want to make your own. Sorry folks for website being down.
